Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell works as a journalist at NBC News based out of Washington D.C. Mitchell has a BA degree in English from the University of Pennsylvania. In 1967 Mitchell began her career as a reporter with KYW Radio and TV in Philadelphia. 1996, she joined WDVM-TV Washington DC, a CBS-affiliated station (then WTOP). Within two years she was hired by NBC News as a Washington correspondent. Beginning in 1981 she started reporting from the White House. In 1988 she became the head of the congressional reporters. She was named Chief White House Correspondent and in 1994, she was named chief foreign affairs reporter of NBC News. Mitchell has been a panelist, as well as presenter of the TV program Meet the Press. She participated as a member of a panel discussion at the 1988 presidential debates between George Bush, and Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is the spouse of Alan Greenspan who was former chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell was awarded the Goldsmith Career Award in Journalism in 2005 from the John F. Kennedy School of Government. The Radio-Television News Directors Association awarded Mitchell Leonard Zeidenberg Award in 2004 for her work in protecting First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell was the very first reporter to cover White House stories for NBC News during the time of Ronald Reagan as president from 1981-1988. The reporting she did included plenty of significant stories, including the Iran-contra scandal, the tax and budget reforms and also the arms control. She traveled extensively along with President Reagan during summits together with Mikhail Gorbachev.
